photo shoot

For this photo shoot i used a different model and added a costume to give the shoot a theme, the bottom 2 photos would work well for a double page spread and some of the other photos would work for the contents page.

Photo manipulation practice

Here i am practicing manipulating an image, i have practiced cutting out the image, brightening the hair and softening the skin. cutting out the image took a long time but was effective. I took a long time to lighten the hair and soften the skin but the impacts were very noticeable.

Photo Shoot

Before the photo shoot i had decided that the genre of my media product was going to be rock, through format research i learnt types of poses common to female rock artists but also a convention is bright coloured hair, so i chose my model due to her bright hair colour. i also followed the norm with the costume but broke the convention of dark colours and instead went for bright to colours.

Music Magazine Research

From my research i conclude that although people enjoy music and festivals they do not read or spend money on music magazines very often therefore for my magazine i should be very detailed, have a professional layout and the content itself should be high quality using terms known to the genre. this could encourage  people to buy my magazine, if the magazine is interesting, high quality and different to the magazines out there at the moment.

Music magazine mood board

Common trends of rock/metal magazines include the use of the colours black, red, yellow and blue. The central image is either the lead singer or the whole band but often when it shows the whole band the lead singers head overlaps the masthead and the rest of the band go behind the masthead.

Front cover research

In my magazine I should include a bold clear masthead to attract attention. The magazines that look more professional have a large statement image on the front cover therefore I should follow trend to make my magazine a higher quality.  I noticed most rock/metal magazines have a dark background and on top of that use contrasting and bright colours such as whit , orange, pink, yellow and red. The contrasting I found very effective so my colour scheme will include black, white and a bold colour. The cover lines tend to alternate in colour to separate and draw attention to them and stops the text from merging into one large paragraph, this was an effective technique I will copy for my magazine, along with a range of font sizes on the front cover to separate different aspects of the page. In the magazines I analyzed the graphic features ranged in sizes and positions on the page, I preferred smaller graphic features as the don’t take away any focus from the main image, I also like how they were positioned at the bottom right hand side, i found this most effective as it didn’t steal any focus of make the page look busy instead added to the page, for my magazine I will use smaller graphic features and position them in a way that doesn't steal away any focus. The most effective sell lines were on the left hand side under the masthead as it was very noticeable I will position my sell lines so that they are noticeable.

Contents Page Research

A common trend i have spotted is that the base colour is typically white, contrasted against black (text and dark photos) but also a light colour such as yellow or orange.
